According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) yesterday, Taiwan and France had their first ministerial-level economic and trade talks on Tuesday, with a focus on potential areas of cooperation in the high-tech supply chain.

French Ministry of Economics and Finance officials met with Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua during the meeting, which was organised by Taiwan. The French officials’ identities were withheld by the MOEA.
It stated that they talked about potential collaborations in industries like semiconductors, AI, electric cars, renewable energy, and space exploration.

The department of ministry stated that one area in particular segment that is seen as promising is the automotive sector in France and the continuous transition to electric vehicles, which offer a promising market for automotive electronics applications on both sides.
According to the ministry, Taiwan, which is well-known for its information and communication technology sector, may also be able to provide France, a leader in the world’s space industry, with a dependable supply chain for ground satellite hardware.

Cooperation between Taiwan and France: Enhancing Satellite Infrastructure and Creating Opportunities for Bilateral Trade

It stated that one potential project would be to extend ground gateways in Taiwan by the French satellite industry, which would improve national security in Taiwan and open up business prospects for Taiwanese firms.
According to the ministry, Taiwan and France have planned for the September visit of French industry representatives to Taiwan as well as developed a roadmap for collaboration.

Data from the MOEA indicates that last year’s bilateral trade between Taiwan and France was valued at US$6.09 billion, the most since 1998.
