The initial public perceptions of ChatGPT were characterised by both magnificent attributes and doomsday pretensions. Henry Kissinger, Eric Schmidt, and Daniel Huttenlocher wrote in February 2023 that generative artificial intelligence (AI) is likened to the intellectual revolution that the printing press started, although this time, AI would be able to consolidate and “distil” the body of human knowledge. These initial perceptions are at opposite ends of a continuum, but the thinking that lies in the middle is typical in technology policy analysis: individual perceptions of generative AI(ChatGPT) seep into the presumptions that form the basis of policy studies. It is all too easy to slip into the trap of extrapolating from current technology conditions to future technological marvels when assumptions of basic importance are left unexamined. All types of technology policy analysts perform good job, but it’s time to recognise the holes in our logic and set higher goals both individually and collectively.

Nothing here implies that the world of technology is only full of hype. Furthermore, it is simpler to identify subtleties in the field of quantum information science; nevertheless, when the future of quantum computing, its crown jewel, is being degraded, little in the way of individual or group contemplation seems to emerge.
The development of this technology into a human-like “general” intelligence or some other marvel of technological imagination is always one model upgrade away, and it cannot be allowed to fall prey to challenges from regulatory bodies or popular movements. Nevertheless, generative AI as it exists today is beginning to resemble a parody of Mao’s Continuous Revolution.
